BestWeb.lk 2014, the much anticipated contest to choose the best Sri Lankan website is scheduled to take place for the fifth time this year. With prizes being awarded for nine main categories and four special categories, the competition is set to attract many contestants vying to be the best among Lankan websites.
Launched in 2009, this competition is organized by the LK Domain Registry, with the objective of providing an exclusive opportunity to promote and popularize Sri Lankan websites.
The registrations for BetWeb.lk 2014 began in May, and will be open till June 2014. The expert panel of judges will then review the applications, whilst the public are invited to cast their votes on what they feel are the best Sri Lankan websites. The prestigious awards ceremony is scheduled to be held in August, where the category winners and overall winners will be announced.
The winning websites will be featured on the BestWeb site, in addition to receiving awards and certificates from the organizers. These websites will also have the unique opportunity to feature the BestWeb logo on their respective webpages.
This year’s award categories include best websites in Government, nonprofit, commercial, E-Commerce, corporate, banking & finance, advertising & marketing, media, sports & entertainment, and travel & tourism sectors. The four special awards include best Sinhala website, best Tamil website, best web developer and best non-Lankan website developed by a Sri Lankan.
The nominated websites will be judged upon technical criteria; completeness, navigation, standards & performance, design criteria; site design & page design; content criteria; quantity & quality, and interaction criteria. All the websites would be assessed and marks will be awarded based on the views of the judging panel. Total marks by the panel of judges would make up 70% of the marking scheme, while the number of votes by the public would contribute to 20% and web traffic the rest of the 10%.
