Independent Television Network (ITN) is the pioneering channel that introduced television to Sri Lanka as a communication media in 1979, as a private sector company. This initiative having created a landmark transformation in the communication, entertainment, business, social, educational and political sphere has made its presence felt in Sri Lankan life.
In 1992 it was converted to a public company with full share portfolio owned by the General Treasury/Ministry of Finance of the Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL).Since then ITN is administered by a Board of Directors headed by a Chairman.
In its 31st year of service ITN was able to boast of expansion into a Media Network including TV Channels and Radio Channels namely ITN, Vasantham TV, Lakhanda Radio and Vasantham FM catering to entertainment, educational and information requirements of all communities in Sri Lanka. The ITN Channel beams programmes in Sinhala while Lakhanda Radio broadcasts its programmes in Sinhala.
